SmokingIf you want to give up smoking the why don't you tell us about it and let us keep you company. You can also discuss other smoking-related issues here.
I had a dream (nightmare) the other night that I had started smoking again. I was SO angry with myself when I woke up, could have kicked myself all around the house.
I have to admit that the pressure does seem to build the longer you have been off. I know it's just my mind telling me that 'It's easy, you could do this any time you want to, you don't have to do it at the moment' But I do have to do it NOW and I wont fail.
I think I preferred dealing with the addiction rather than fighting with my mind !!! I've never understood that thing anyway

I am doing O.K. but after 9 weeks I thought it would get a lot easier as time went on. The problem is it's more than a bit stressful at work at the mo' and I want to use that as an excuse. I wont but it's a bit tempting

I hate to be depressing but I'm not sure that the cravings ever fully disappear, as I'm sure you're well aware Lex. Just remind yourself how much you're benefitting in terms of health, money etc. Cheaper life insurance is only about 40 weeks away now.
I can only suggest that you avoid those activities that require a cigarette afterwards.
Cold showers it is then.

Thanks, folks for the support over the 24 hours or so.
Nine weeks done and dusted then !!!
I have to say though last week was the worst so far. A combination of stress, frustration and trying to get 8 days work in, in 7. That *big old monster* in my head was really playing up.
However thats last week, this week should be a lot better. It was a close thing mind, Wendy throu the book at me in the end, the Allen Carr book, and said 'For Gods sake read it again'.

Last week was so much easier than the one before, even with a couple of days out with friends. What is helping no end when we are out and about is there is only one of our group thats smokes. Last night we were teasing him into writing a *Good smoking shelter guide* for Devon. LoL.
Fortunately none of my kids smoke at home, I now have to work on Mr's Lex, but I fear thats a little way off yet
Great stuff
Thank you all for your continued support

I would have thought at this time of theyear, should be a lot easier too, the idea of going out to freeze your butt while gulping ice-cold air, *shivers just at the thought*. I remember stamping my feet, one hand in pocket, the other just holding on to fag, lips getting stuck to filter (gawd, that HURT when that happened! ), and the SMELL! Why does it smell so much worse sticking to your clothes when it's cold? )
Just relived this in my head, and it made me glad all over I don't do this any more.

I'm still going strong (not really, I am OK but only just) and very, very busy. I bought the Xmas booze to early. Big mistake
I have had to keep reading parts of the Allen Carr book to the point that I have worn the words out
Any cravings are now days apart but seem stronger ?? If that makes any since. I am sure that if I can get work sorted and finished by Xmas eve, I will have cracked it, that is my one aim.

I have just refound this, I have copied it out and stuck it to the computer.
I hope it helps someone else.
Within 20 minutes - Blood pressure and pulse rate start to return to normal
Within 8 Hours - Nicotine and carbon monoxide levels in blood reduce by half. Oxygen levels return to normal.
Within 24 Hours - Carbon monoxide will be eliminated from the body. Lungs start to clear out mucus and other smoking debris. You won't believe the gunge that comes up at first as your body begins to re-grow cilia, the tiny hairs that line your airways and help push up impurities from your lungs - your smoking destroyed these.
Within 48 Hours - There is no nicotine left in the body. Ability to taste and smell is greatly improved
Within 72 Hours - Breathing becomes easier. Bronchial tubes begin to relax and energy levels increase
Within 2-12 weeks - Circulation rapidly improves
Within 3-9 months - Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve as lung functions are increased by up to 10%. Personally, my smokers cough actually disappeared after 4-5 days!
Within 5 years - Risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
Within 10 years - Risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked
