wannabesmokefree is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Wannabesmokefree

I've not had a cigarette for three days. Gone straight cold turkey. No NRT or champix or anything. I've been telling myself the cravings will get easier each day and thought they would have got a bit easier by now but if anything they are worse than ever. Is this normal? I'm determined to beat this but feel so bad at the moment.

Any one got any advice or tips?

It definitely comes in fits and starts. I'm on Champix and even I had a really bad day last Saturday. But I suppose the way to think about it is it really doesn't get any worse and you've got through it before and can get through again.

You're both doing wonderful, keep up the hard work. Just think, if you start again, the next time you want to quit you'd have to go through all that again. Don't let it be for nothing. xxx

I'm so full of admiration for anyone who gives up "cold turkey". I managed five weeks last year but I did find that reading the Allen Carr book really helped.

Well done you lot.

I've posted the following quote on my thread but I thought it may help you focus your mind on the benefits of stopping.

Don't give up giving up - pllleeeeasseeee

You won't believe the gunge that comes up at first as your body begins to re-grow cilia, the tiny hairs that line your airways and help push up impurities from your lungs - your smoking destroyed these.
Within 48 Hours - There is no nicotine left in the body. Ability to taste and smell is greatly improved

Within 2-12 weeks - Circulation rapidly improves
Within 3-9 months - Coughs, wheezing and breathing problems improve as lung functions are increased by up to 10%. Personally, my smokers cough actually disappeared after 4-5 days!
Within 5 years - Risk of heart attack falls to about half that of a smoker
Within 10 years - Risk of lung cancer falls to about half that of a smoker. Risk of heart attack falls to the same as someone who has never smoked

I pinched this from macaboy. Thought it was a good read.....

Thanks for that Brassed off!

It really makes you feel that all the suffering is worthwhile and has given me an extra determination to keep going. Not given in yet, but been very tempted.

How are you doing?

7 days now for you Wannabe. Who's a clever bunny. Get your tracker sorted out, you need to feel proud of your achievement and what better way than showing off on the CHF

Don't give up giving up!! You'll have to change your username soon 'coz you won't be a wannabe anymore, you'll be a "has been"
