Default Email post system

We are very pleased to be trying this out. It helps us cross the line between forum and newsgroup.

We'd be very pleased to receive feedback on whether or not it is working satisfactorily and what people think of it. Could it be improved?

For the uninitiated amongst us, could you please explain what this is and how it works?

If you have subscribed to instant email notification and if you have given a valid email address, then you should receive an email for every post which is put up into a thread to which you are subscribed.

The email contains the text of what has been posted. It also contains a space into which you can send a response. The forum software will extract anything you have written in the space between the the two long lines and will insert her on the forum as a post from you. In fact the post won't look any different from a normal one.

This means that everyone who has subscribed to the thread becomes a member of an email newsgroup - but also has the benefit of a forum community as well.

Have you tried it out at all?

I am set up for instant email notification (although I didn't select this - I assume it's the forum default). However, I have received no email notifications even though there have been replies to this thread and also another thread which I have posted on.

Actually, I've just noticed that even though I am set up to automatically be subscribed to threads, I have no threads listed in my subscriptions. Furthermore, when I try to subscribe to this thread manually, I get the following message:

Quote:
Email Integration is enabled for this forum. Individual thread subscriptions are disabled. If you would like to subscribe for instant updates for this forum Click Here!
So do you have to subscribe to each forum, rather than on a post-by-post basis?

I'm not sure. Looks as if it may be on a forum basis.
Have you tried it?

Just had an email posting with the 'reply below this line' but it doesn't allow me to do that. Not 'clickable' as it were.
Could be because of my email program though as i do use an Apple Mac G4.
No big deal as i like to visit the site anyway but thought i would mention it incase others have a similar experience. D

But when you press the reply button - assuming that your email program is set to include the post which you are replying to, then it will have the upper and lower margins and you will be able to type between them.

You are right that the email as received is not clickable. You con only type into the reply email

I've subscribed to the forum now and received an email alert for this thread, and sent a reply writing between the two lines but it doesn't appear on here - should it be instantaneous or is there a delay?

EDIT: Ok it works, but took over 5 minutes before the reply appeared on the thread. Nifty feature though!
