Default What does 5 a day actually mean

Mainly, I am asking whether it means that your 5 a day should be even spaced through the day or does it mean that it is OK to get the whole lot in one meal?

I don't think it really matters how you spread it over the day WM, but I would guess that the earlier in the day the better, there has always been a lot of talk about breakfast being the best meal of the day for you, so starting with some fruit would be good I guess. and that could include a smoothie made from fresh fruit/veg.

I think I would agree with happy here, although does anybody know what a portion is equal to? Is it one peice of fruit or so many grams of veg etc?

I guess it's like any food types... best to try and spread it out through the day but all at once (if the tummy isn't bothered by this) is far better than none at all.
Here's what the NHS has to say on what constitutes 5 a day:
Portion Sizes - Fruit - 5 A DAY

Personally, from experience, i have found that 5 a day is, ideally, the least amount you should aim for unless someone is very young and their digestive systems are not ready for 500 oranges a week!

In 2006 i started juicing and it was a year that i felt (physically) the best i have ever done. I juiced a pineapple, 8 oranges, a kiwi fruit and a handful of grapes every morning which made up about a litre. My skin was never so soft and my eyes were bright and i even felt i slept better at night.

Sounds like magic. Are you saying that you juiced a whole pineapple every
day??!!!

What made you decide on this combination and what did you use as a juicer?

Yes a whole pineapple every day! Depends on the efficiency of the juicer on how much liquid you get from it but a good one (personally i use a Matstone juicer) can squeeze half, to three quarters of a litre out of a fresh pineapple.
Topped up with orange juice and chilled, sipping throughout the day.

Kiwi turns the liquid green (which might be fun for kids maybe) yet doesn't really change the overall taste.
And grapes for the skin, for me at least, are amazing things. The back of my arms can be a bit rough sometimes but if i have some of the above juice and eat whole seedless grapes then within 12=24hrs my skin is smooth again!
Most juicers have books/booklets with them that give recipes and the pineapple/orange combo seems to be popular!
Strawberry slush puppies (using the icing attachment many juicers have) are lovely in the summer too!
